Grip Studs Screw-In Tire Studs | Traction in Ice, Snow and Dirt | 1000 Tire Stud

Helpful Tips
When installing Grip Studs® with the Grip Studs® driver tool, ensure the prongs on your tool are firmly seated in the notches in the studs. If the tool is not seated all the way in the stud, torque pressure can cause the installation tool to break. Grip Studs® tools are not designed to be used with impact drivers.

Knockoff Studs Do Not Work

Ease of Installation

Down here in Oregon, we do not get a lot of snow or ice up in the mountains, but we do have our fair share of mud, roots, fallen trees, rocks, ruts and massive white knuckle hill climbs. I have been trying different tire models looking for the perfect weapon to combat our terrain, but I could not find one that would grab hold of wet wood, rocks or dig down through the red clay that turn your tires into drag slicks within seconds. I did some research online and came across a few different traction options. The first ones I tried resembled black sheet metal screws. These went in nice and easy, but within 3 hours of riding, fell out just as easily. I lost over 60% of them in one ride! These were inexpensive and not to mention showed a lot of head wear but I do feel bad about all the sharp pointed screws I left all over the trials that day. I got what I paid for. My search continued on until I came across Grip Studs through a forum. I went to the website to discover my potentially perfect solution. Come to find out, this company was located in my home state Oregon! I called them the next day and got to speak with a real person who personally runs Grip Studs in his tires. In fact, the whole Grip Studs crew run them in their dirt bikes, so I was able to get some first-hand recommendations through many years of experience. In all honesty, at first the price shocked me, so I found what I thought was the same product on Amazon sold by another company. These studs were manufactured in China but what the heck, saving $80 why not try them. I augured the Grip Stud copies into my tire and took them out for a rip. After a 3 hour ride, I looked closely at them and noticed that about 15 of them had already lost their carbide point! I knew something was wrong with them, so I contacted Amazon. I was issued a return authorization from Amazon, however the tool broke after removing 13 of the studs! At this point, I was fuming. So, I jumped on the Grip Studs webpage and ordered up 1800 for the rear and 1740 for the front in the quantity of 200 per tire. I also ordered up a brand new set of tires to install them. I got my order of 200 studs for the front and 200 for the rear tire and immediately went to work. I found that putting my bike on a center stand gave me the ability to rotate the tire as I was installing them. I can not believe the results, it took me about an hour and a half and the tires look like weapons! That following weekend, I was able to experience first-hand, what the word traction means. I felt like I was rolling down a strip of Velcro as I was able to shred wet roots, rip over down logs, cut through the red clay and side hill like I have never experienced. I could not believe the control on slick down hills. My brakes would actually stop me without dragging a cubic foot of debris down to the bottom of the hill with my rear tire.

Installed these on my 2001 YZ250. Installation was easy enough, and took me about an hour and a half to do front and rear, after I had the pattern laid out. I went with 100 on the front, and 150 on the rear. I wish I had checked my lugs on the front, because I would have chosen to go with 150-200 on the front. I still might get another pack for more front end bite on the ice, when I have it laid over in the turns. With all that said, I'm really happy I went with the Grip Studs, and not concrete screws. I know a lot of guys use screws, but if your tire is decent, you don not even need to dismount to install these little guys. No need for inner liners and all that, just install them with a cordless drill (NOT AN IMPACT DRIVER). The grip they provide is astonishing! You want to do wheelies on the ice? No problem. Stoppies? Why not! Can't wait to hit the trails and see how they do on the frozen single tracks! Winter time will never be boring again!

This is my 4th season with Grip Studs in my KTM 300. The picture is of the 4 year old studs that I just installed in a new tire because the tire was simply worn out. The tires wear out but the studs stay in, and it is like you are riding on velcro! We ride everything from river ice, lakes, dirt, over rocks and logs and I am yet to lose a stud. I have my buddies hooked on winter riding now and we can enjoy our riding areas all year long now. It truly is a one time investment that pays off.

At the end of February, Victoria Hett, Husqvarna Marketing Manager, attempted to end the stigma of winter by bringing two brand new Husqvarnas outfitted with a fresh set of Grip Studs for us to try out. At first glance, the Grip Studs look small, and it would seem hard to believe that they would make any real difference, but their performance was nothing short of amazing. After riding, we inspected the studs and discovered that there was virtually no wear on any of them and none had pulled out or shown any sign of coming loose. The Tungsten Carbide shafts did an excellent job biting into the snow and ice and when riding on packed snow it was hard to tell that it was not gravel. The tires held the studs very well and none of the knobs cracked or ripped off, even with the cold temperatures and added traction. The Husqvarnas were perfect for this riding experience, and it has changed my mind about the possibility of riding in the winter, and I will definitely be looking to pick up a set of Grip Studs for next winter.

My current bikes are a 2013 KTM 250XCF-W and a 2007 Honda CRF 230F. I am an A rider and this area consists of hardpack granite, soft forest loam, rocks, and mud. One of, if not the best, things I have ever bought for my bikes. I run the studs all year long - wet or dry as do many of the serious riders in this area. Grip Studs may be the best modification I have ever made to a off-road bike, and I would definitely purchase them before graphics and/or an aftermarket exhaust.

We ended up not having our little race because we got way too much snow the night before. A few buddies will order some gripstuds for next year as they were impressed with the traction I get on our rock solid icy single tracks.

I have been using your studs for several years now and they have allowed me to ride year round. Even on hard packed icy dirt roads they hold the bike firmly planted. My biggest problem is that I can not seem to get them to plow the motorcycle parking spot at work.

A group of 4 of us ride some really snotty hills out of Portland. All the rest of my buddies had your studs and were just ripping up the hills leaving me huffin and puffin behind. I just could not let that happen, so I got my own Grip Studs and love them! Thanks!
